History

HepaFamily Switzerland was founded in 1987 as a parent association for children with liver diseases by affected families. During this time, the first liver transplants were carried out, initially in Brussels and later in Geneva. Long hospital stays for the children and their families were the norm. This is how families from all over Switzerland got to know each other and organized themselves. In 2024, the name was changed following a vote by the members.

Today, our association includes approximately 90 families. Among them are families who have been part of HepaFamily Switzerland since its founding and who inspire us with their stories. As children, they were transplanted and are now living full lives, pursuing education, and starting their own families. Our association also includes families who have lost a child. Despite this, they remain connected with us! Some families have only recently been confronted with their child’s illness. For them, it is often particularly important to connect with other families in similar situations.
